Euro comes, Greece goes

by Christos Charitos

The year 2002 finds us with a new currency, the Euro. The drachma with a history of 2.500 years disappears and, along with it, Greece loses the control over its national currency and its monetary policy. Every national and financial sovereignty is levelled in the name of the new Holy Roman Empire. Germany, the European Central Bank of Frankfurt, will control our financial transactions.

Eminent economists, such as Constantine Colmer and Constantine Thanos, have foreseen that the Euro is not going to have positive repercussions on the Greek economy, whether it's about the private investments or the income and the consumption of the Greek working class. The buying power of the Greeks is definitely not going to equate with the one of the Germans or the French. However there is a fair chance that the commodities' sale prices will equate.

And this practically means that, since most of the commodities available in the Greek market are imported by subsidiaries of multinational companies, their prices are going to gradually equate. For example, a detergent from a Greek supermarket is going to cost in Euro as much as the corresponding one in France. With one difference: the average French earns 1.800 Euro/month, while the Greek only 530!

Hellenic Front text with revealing questions and documented answers about the Euro and the risks from its adoption.

The introduction of Euro will have no effect on investments. They are influenced by the taxation, the labor cost, the infrastructure, the state intervention and have no relation to the common currency. Besides no investments can be done in an economy living on borrowed money and given the preferential contracts of the state companies with the "familiar suppliers". All the sectors of the Greek economy are now controlled by foreign capital, from the retail to the heavy industry (e.g. cement). The few Greek exceptions (Titan, 3E, Fage, Kiriakopoulos, Rolko) simply prove the rule.

We should also be very cautious with the political aspect of Euro. Even in the stalinist USSR "constitution" of 1938, there was an article permitting a "Socialist Republic" to withdraw from the USSR. More simply, if Esthonia or Ukraine had decided to secede from the USSR and become independent states, there was an article of Stalin's "constitution" which permitted it, even though theoretically! However today, in the year 2002, in the "democratic European Union" there is no such provision or clause of withdrawal!

If a state decides that it is not to its interest to stay in the EU and wishes to withdraw, there is no way! Imagine entering a house with entrance door, but without exit door. Would you ever enter? Umberto Bossi, leader of Lega Nord and government partner of Berlusconi, aptly calls EU the "Soviet Union of the West"!

In this way petty-Greece of Simitis and Karamanlis will march on "European integration". Pilio, Mani and Monemvasia are to be given over to German and British pensioners. Our towns to the illegal immigrants. Our industry to "Blue Circle", our infrastructure to "Hochtief" and our commerce to "Carrefour". Our flag to the first Albanian muslim pupil. Our universities and schools have already been given over to the Marxists. Our media to Labrakis and Bobolas.

Our army to Yannos Papantoniou, member of the Communist Party (interior) until 1981! Our language to Diamantopoulou and the "Glinos' disciples". Our national foreign policy is not needed, since we are doing business with Tara and Koutsikos! The history of the Balkan wars has been deleted from the school books, because we belong to the same "European family" with the Bulgarians. Our religion has been removed from the identity cards, because "religion is the opium of the peoples". Should I enumerate more? Can't we realize that the Euro is another decline sign of a nation that slowly dies?

Hellenic Front goes against the current of decline and national vassalage again. We defend the national sovereignty in the Economy and our control over the Currency. We believe that very soon it will be proven that the Euro, EMU and EU are geopolitical fabrications of Germany and France, enabling them to become the "guardians" of the whole of Europe, and obey the needs of the German capital for expansion and domination. The Greek patriots should fight the battle for the enlightenment of the Greek people about the Euro. The socialist (PASOK) and liberal (ND) parties have the "luxury to play with the national sovereignty", following the voice of their masters. But not the Hellenic Front.
